Here's the second batch of photos from ADF 8.
The morning of 22 February 2009, Doug holds up the short C section we had molded the previous day.
The meanwhile Brad trims the edge of the long C with a sanding block.
Brad trims the end of the spar butt to the scribe line.
Our first look at the two C sections aligned together.
Laying out the stiffener foam and pin bushing reinforcements for the second long C.
Wetting out the pultrusions for the second short C (2 photos).
This kind of work responds pretty well to extra hands.
I press the ends of the pultruded sticks down into the trench in the mold while Doug and Brad wet the next set of sticks.
Here we have two columns of sticks entrenched, and we're starting to wet the foam shear web stiffener.
The stiffener is in place and we're wetting four of the last eight sticks.
Just starting to wet carbon cloth for the double-overlapped side of the shear web.
The short C is finished and I'm dealing out a draw of sticks for the long C.
And pressing them neatly into the trench in the mold,
Here we've wet and closed the first of the overlaps, and are preparing to organize and close the second.
The two spar C sections laid and wrapped. After this we lay on the peel, perf, blanket, and bag, pump it down, and scoot.
Homebuilt aviation is not for folks who don't try things at home.
